I taught junior high choir for four years, followed by 13 years as an elementary music specialist. I loved integrating technology in my music classroom, and soon began having peers ask me to help them use the technology in their classrooms. Later, when our school district received a grant for training teachers in technology, I was invited to provide staff development for the district. I was hooked!!
I have a Master of Education in Instructional Technology, and I worked at Region 16 Education Service Center for 9 years as a consultant for K-12 technology integration, especially in the area of distance learning. Now I am on the faculty of Amarillo College in the elearning department of the Center for Teaching and Learning. I am an Instructional Desinger and Technology Specialist, assisting faculty with online course design.
When I attend conferences and other training opportunities, I get so much great new information. In the past, I would find that I’d come back to work all fired up and excited, then a couple of months later, I couldn’t even remember what that great new idea or resource was. Even if I’d taken notes, they were often sketchy, or I couldn’t find them at all.
In 2006, when I attended a workshop at TCEA about blogging, I found this to be a tool for me that is similar to Professor Dumbledore‘s pensieve in the Harry Potter series…it’s a great place to dump my thoughts when my brain gets too full. Then I can come back and retrieve them when I need them!
The fact that blogs are public makes it even better…I have been able to share my great finds with co-workers, as well as my personal learning network.
